Class Description
This training explores how cultural values, beliefs, and barriers shape help-seeking behavior for problem gambling within Latino and Hispanic communities. Clinicians will learn about common cultural dynamics, stigma, and underutilization of treatment services, and will gain tools to engage Latino clients and families in a culturally responsive way. The session includes a real-world case illustration and practical strategies to improve outreach, assessment, and treatment planning.
Learning Objectives
- Identify at least three core cultural values commonly found within Latino/Hispanic communities that influence help-seeking behavior related to gambling
- Describe how cultural perceptions, stigma, and barriers affect the recognition and treatment of problem gambling in Latino populations
- Analyze a real-world case illustration involving a Latino family impacted by gambling to understand the interplay between cultural dynamics and clinical engagement
- List at least three culturally responsive strategies to improve outreach, engagement, and retention of Latino clients in gambling treatment programs
- Apply a culturally informed action plan or intervention model to adapt existing gambling treatment services to better serve Latino communities
