Betting On Our Future (BOOF) is a youth-driven underage gambling and gambling disorder prevention program offered by the California Friday Night Live Partnership (CFNLP). BOOF projects empower young people to reduce underage gambling and gambling disorder by utilizing environmental prevention strategies. These strategies promote health and safety by changing the policies, settings, and community conditions that contribute to high-risk, unhealthy behaviors. Oversight and technical assistance for the BOOF initiative is provided by the California Friday Night Live Partnership (CFNLP), which is housed within the Tulare County Office of Education (TCOE).
Through a competitive process, the CFNLP awards BOOF sites with mini grants to implement projects across California. With a focus on media messages, accessibility, policies, and social norms, youth support the development of video projects and public service announcements to communicate the risks and signs of problem gambling behaviors among youth.
Young people also create educational digital graphics to inform their peers and communities about problem gambling behavior and gambling disorder resources,. You can see examples of some of the work that they have created below.
