Class Description
With sports betting now widely available across the United States, important questions remain about how this shift affects psychological, physical, and social health. This workshop explores the ways gambling advertising influences betting behavior, the implications of constant and instant access to sports wagering, and the potential impact on mental and physical well-being. Participants will examine how sports betting may differ from other gambling formats such as electronic gaming machines, table games, or the lottery, with particular attention to risk, accessibility, and patterns of harm.

- Illustrate 2 ways in which the expansion of sports betting has impacted state public health issues related to gambling behaviors
- Develop three techniques and strategies for screening and assessment of sports bettors who may be at risk for gambling disorder
- Name three treatment strategies that should be applied to sports bettors with gambling disorder
- Form at least 2 future strategies for advocacy and community engagement around the issue of sports betting
